Palm Jumeirah

The Dubai Islands are an innovative idea put into practice, like so much else in Dubai, by the ambitious property development company Nakheel. The first of these islands to be completed is the Palm Jumeirah, and it is at the present time the world’s largest occupied private island. As a new development it is yet to develop its full identity and challenge its competitors in a straight fight, but the belief is that in time it will be one of the world’s premier resorts – having been described by many as the “Eighth Wonder of the World”.

The recent development of the Palm Jumeirah has meant that it is able to aim itself squarely at the desired audience, and this has been done by aiming at areas that are not fully served by the present day Dubai travel sector. This means boutique hotels, innovative villas and apartments, and each property being a coastal building. Because of the unique palm shape of the islands, it is possible for every property to be built this way. The Palm Jumeirah is also home to some of the most incredible resorts in the Dubai region.

The Trump International Hotel and Tower is set to be one of the developments to really bring the islands into the public consciousness, along with the Taj Exotica Hotel and Spa. Currently, however, the most amazing of the existing resorts is Atlantis, a stunning development served by the Palm Jumeirah monorail. The hotel itself consists of two towers connected by a bridge and a stunning 1500 rooms, as well as a water theme park, and is one of the most ambitious developments in the Dubai travel industry.
