Dubai is one of the seven states in the United Arab Emirates. It is well known and represents a luxury capital of the world. But like in every other touristic country, there are natives living here throughout the year and there are also foreign people who decide to live and work here.

The life in Dubai can be very interesting for many reasons. We must remember the fact that this is one of the richest cities of the world and life in Dubai can be very exciting but very expensive too. People who visit Dubai for the first time and see the incredible luxury lifestyle it provides they wish to stay longer than their vacation. They wish to stay and live and work in the Emirates.

Expat life in Dubai
The term expat is the abbreviate from the term expatriate and it describes a person who is living and working in a foreign country. The expats are present in very wast numbers in the United Arab Emirates. Being one of the economically strongest countries in the world, the Emirates offer very nice work conditions and attractive wages to the foreign people.

The first step of living in Dubai is finding a job that suits our qualifications. There are many ways to find jobs in the Emirates and one of them is browsing the classified ads. Ads can be found on various addresses on the Internet and they are very easy to find. After finding a right job we must contact the company which placed the ad in the first place and send our CV and qualifications. If we are qualified and get the job we have to be sure that our future employer will provide work visa and maybe even a place to stay. If this is not the case then we have to get a visa by ourselves and find an apartment to live in.

We must be aware that the United Arab Emirates are a Muslim country and we must be careful not to brake any of their laws or offend their customs. The first rule we must be aware of  is that cohabiting is illegal for unmarried couples, at it is prohibited by law. So, if you plan to work and live in Dubai with your girlfriend/boyfriend make sure to legalize your relationship, i.e. get married to avoid any legal complication.

The second important thing is clothing. Women must wear discrete clothes, its is considered very offensive to wear short skirts or revealing tops. At the beach the rules are not so strict, women can wear bikini, but topless sunbathing and thongs are prohibited. Also the men must be aware that walking anywhere off the beach bare chested is considered offensive toward the local population.

The third important thing is the consumption of alcoholic beverages. Foreign people can buy alcohol in Duty Free shops or in hotels, bar, nightclubs, etc. But the consumption of alcohol is strictly confided to these establishments, it is prohibited to consume alcohol on the street. Also if we plan to drive a motorized vehicle it is wise not to drink anything because the local authorities has zero tolerance for drivers under the influence of alcohol.
