Jebel Ali
Jebel Ali is currently the biggest port in the Middle East, but it is so much more than that to the developers who are playing a part in its future. The status of Jebel Ali is about to expand considerably, as the area is set to be right at the epicenter of the Dubai World Central development, including the building of Al Maktoum International Airport. Placing Jebel Ali at the center of the region’s air and sea travel will mean a considerable amount of revenue for the area, and jobs for its residents as well as a major boost to the Dubai travel sector.
It is said that Jebel Ali is home to more than five thousand companies from over a hundred countries. This makes it the ideal place to be Dubai’s hub of international travel. It is in fact already the worlds largest man-made harbour, and while we are talking statistics is also the most frequently visited port by United States naval ships. There is space there for several ships, which has led to the building of facilities used by naval personnel on their down time. Any US Naval personnel who have completed a tour of duty will have stayed at Jebel Ali at least once in their time.
Since the mid 1980s Jebel Ali has been a destination for ships, and with the redevelopment of Port Rashid it will now be by far and away the region’s main destination for cargo. As time goes on, Jebel Ali’s importance is set to increase, and it may well become one of the most familiar parts of Dubai for frequent visitors.
