Dubai Trips
Of course the regular day to day experience for people visiting Dubai for the first time tends to center around the more modern, materialistic side of the city. The Dubai travel industry necessarily has a large dependence upon these things, as they are the current playing field on which the world’s tourist destinations play out their opposition it would however be a big mistake to assume that this was all Dubai had to offer. As a city with a history unlike any in the West, it provides some very interesting pursuits for the tourist who is prepared to look. The city has 200 mosques for example. While non-Muslims are not allowed to enter most mosques in the UAE, the beautiful Jumeirah mosque is the venue for a magnificent tour arranged by the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding. Remember to dress modestly and respectfully if taking the tour as a non-Muslim.
There is scope to leave the city entirely – whether for the outlying towns such as Sharjah, Deira and further away Abu Dhabi, or to voyage out into the desert a little for a “dune-bashing” experience. Tour operators offer such trips in four by four vehicles. It can get very bumpy, but the vehicles are built to take the punishment and allow the voyager to simply enjoy their experience. You can hire a vehicle yourself, but it is worth remembering that the tour operators know the routes and can be sure of not doing damage to the fragile desert habitat – leaving you to enjoy the experience without having to worry about getting the vehicle – and yourself – back safely and in one piece.
