Dubai Music

December 3, 2009 Leave a comment

There are many places and many ways to have a good time in Dubai, and this is as true for music fans as it is for anyone else. The radio and television stations which rule the airwaves in this fine city have a wide and eclectic range of music for you to listen to, and the excellent club scene is particularly worthwhile if you like modern dance music. Additionally, there is a very good live music scene, with artists such as Elton John, Shakira and Coldplay all having recently performed in the city. Kylie Minogue performed one of the richest music gigs of all time in the city, receiving more than four million dollars to open the Atlantis resort at the end of 2008.

In addition to this and thanks to the Dubai travel industry’s diversity, Dubai has in the last decade become the venue for the Middle East’s premier live rock event, the Dubai Desert Rock Festival. As a sign of how the region has become more and more open to Western art forms, the Dubai Desert Rock Festival has welcomed some of the world’s most popular rock and metal, and rock influenced, acts. A notable bill in 2007 saw Iron Maiden and the Prodigy perform, while more recently bands like Muse, Motorhead and Korn have also featured.

In addition to the above acts, local band Nervecell have made their name by being regulars at the festival and secured a reputation as an influential band beyond the UAE’s borders. A local music scene has been created to both attract bands like the above and to create a range of local acts, which can only help the Dubai travel industry.
